What have you got to loose - well a great deal of money if you get the wrong training or join the wrong school that is not suitable for your individual needs.

The ADI qualification

Before you can operate as a driving instructor in the UK you have to pass the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) qualifying examination. The ADI examination is in three parts, a theory test (multiple choice tick test plus hazard spotting video test), a practical driving test (very similar to the standard practical driving test for learners but longer) and a practical test of your instructional ability (where the examiner plays the role of a learner as you give him or her a driving lesson). While parts 1 and 2 of the qualifying examination are relatively straightforward to pass, Part 3 does involve you learning a whole host of new skills, which does take time and effort to master.

To pass the qualifying exam you need good training from a qualified DSA ORDIT trainer. Chequers Motoring School has teamed up with one of the leading independent instructor driver training companies in Bristol and can offer you 1 to 1 training in all aspects of the 3 parts to becoming an ADI, at a very reasonable rate because you only pay for the amount of training that you require. You pay per hour for all your training, not a fixed amount and hope you receive enough training to pass!

Trainee Licence

After you have passed the part two exam and have completed your 40 hours of part three training, you are then able to apply to the DSA for a trainee licence. The licence is issued for 6 months. The licence permits you to legally teach in a full time capacity as any other driving instructor but with certain conditions attached. One of those conditions is that you receive an additional 20 hours of instructor training during your first 3 months of licence period.

The purpose of the trainee licence is to allow for some practical experience to be gained before you take the Part Three exam, building up your experience with real pupils to help you prepare before your first attempt at passing, you are only allowed to take three attempts.

At the stage of applying for the trainee licence, you should by now have arranged for a suitably approved car, we can help with advice at this stage.
